Overview – Tourist Visa / Visitors Visa

Tourist & Visitor Visa for Family and Friends allows individuals to visit the Netherlands for tourism purposes or to spend time with family and friends residing in the Netherlands. This visa is part of the Schengen visa category, granting access to the Netherlands and other Schengen countries for a short stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

This visa is ideal if you plan to:

  • Explore the Netherlands for tourism and leisure.
  • Visit family members or friends legally residing in the Netherlands.
  • Discover Dutch heritage, culture, and attractions.
  • Attend personal events such as weddings, family gatherings, or religious ceremonies.

Processing Time

  • You can apply for this visa up to 6 months before travel.
  • The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the date of application.
  • Some applications may take longer due to high volume, additional document requests, or security checks based on nationality.
  • Airplane crew members do not need to leave their passports at visa centre during processing.

Your passport will remain with the visa centre during processing. You can track your application status using the track & trace code provided at submission.

Visa Application Form

Travel Documents

  • valid passport or travel document (must be valid for at least 3 months beyond departure from the Schengen area).
  • The passport must contain at least two blank pages and must not be older than 10 years.
  • copy of all pages of the passport.

For minors (under 18 years old):

  • Birth certificate.
  • If traveling with only one parent or alone, a  consent letter from both parents/legal guardians is required.
  • Copies of both parents’ passports (or a certified copy of the biodata page).
  • In cases of sole custody, supporting documents such as a court order, death certificate, or proof of sole parental responsibility are required.

UK Residency

One of the following documents must be provided:

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) valid for at least one month beyond your Schengen departure (valid until March 31, 2025).
  • An EU Settlement Scheme Biometric Residence Card (EUSS BRC) valid for at least one month beyond Schengen departure (valid until March 31, 2025).

Passport Photo

  • A recent passport-size photo meeting Dutch passport requirements (not older than 3-6 months).
  • Must be clear, high resolution, and meet size specifications (see official photo guidelines).

Proof of Travel & Accommodation

Visa For Family & Friends:

  • Confirmed return ticket or proof of onward travel.
  • Proof of invitation from the host in the Netherlands, which may include:
    • Invitation letter from the host detailing visit purpose, duration, and relationship.
    • Copy of the host’s passport or residence permit.
  • Proof of family relationship (if applicable), such as:
    • Marriage certificate (for spouses).
    • Birth certificate (for children).

Tourist:

  • Confirmed return flight ticket or proof of onward travel.
  • Hotel reservation for the entire duration of stay
  • In case of tour, travel itinerary or confirmation of participation in a pre-booked tour.

Financial Proof (Proof of Sufficient Means)

  • UK bank statements from the past three months, showing financial stability.
  • Traveller’s cheques or credit card statements indicating available balance.
  • If financially supported by a spouse or parent, the following additional documents are required:
    • Marriage certificate (for spouses).
    • Birth certificate (for children).
    • Financial statements & proof of occupation of the supporting individual.
    • A signed letter of financial support.

Proof of Occupation

For Employees 9not older than 30 days) :

  • A recent employment letter confirming job role, salary, and approved leave.
  • Payslips from the last three months.

For Self-Employed Applicants:

  • Letter from an accountant, banker, or solicitor confirming self-employment.
  • Latest HMRC self-assessment tax return.

For Students:

  • A signed letter from a UK school, college, or university confirming enrolment and attendance.

Travel Insurance

  • Must cover the entire Schengen area and your full stay.
  • Minimum coverage of €30,000 for:
    • Medical emergencies and hospitalization.
    • Repatriation (including in case of death).

Visa For Final Destination

  • If traveling beyond the Schengen area, a valid visa or residence permit for your next destination is required

Additional Information

  • Do not book non-refundable flights or hotels before visa approval.
  • Your passport will be retained during the application process.
  • Incomplete applications may lead to rejection.

Photo Specifications

To ensure your application is processed without delays, your passport photo must meet the following criteria:

Dimensions:

  • Size: 35 mm x 45 mm (width x height).
  • Face Width: Between 16 mm and 20 mm (excluding ears).
  • Face Length: For applicants aged 11 and over, between 26 mm and 30 mm (from chin to crown).

Quality:

  • Colour: The photo must be in colour and a true likeness.
  • Recency: Taken within the last 6 months.
  • Clarity: Sharp, with sufficient contrast and detail.
  • Condition: Undamaged and unaltered by computer software.
  • Paper: Printed on high-quality, smooth photo paper with a minimum resolution of 400 dpi.

Lighting:

  • Evenness: Lighting must be even, without over- or underexposure.
  • Shadows: No shadows on the face or background.
  • Reflections: No reflections on the face or from accessories.

Position:

  • Head Orientation: Head facing forward, not tilted.
  • Eye Alignment: Eyes horizontally aligned.
  • Shoulders: Shoulders straight.

Background:

  • Colour: Light grey, light blue, or white.
  • Uniformity: Plain, all one colour and shade.
  • Contrast: Must contrast sufficiently with the head.

Glasses:

  • Visibility: Eyes fully visible through fully transparent lenses.
  • No Distortion: No distortion or shadows caused by glasses.

Facial Appearance:

  • Head Coverings: Head uncovered unless worn for religious reasons.
  • Visibility: Face fully visible; eyes not obscured by hair or accessories.

Expression:

  • Neutrality: Neutral expression with mouth closed.
  • Gaze: Looking straight at the camera.

Exceptions:

  • Religious Head Coverings: Permitted if the head covering is plain, in one color, and contrasts with the background.
  • Children Under 6: Some requirements are relaxed, such as strict positioning and expression rules.
