Netherlands Long-Stay Caribbean Visa – Overview

Long-Stay Caribbean Visa is required for individuals planning to stay in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for more than 90 days. If you have already applied for a residence permit in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St Eustatius, or St Maarten, you may need this visa to collect your residence permit upon arrival.

  • Allows entry to collect a residence permit after an approved application.
  • Valid for travel to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom but not for the European Netherlands or Schengen area.
  • Each country has different conditions regarding approval documents required.

Processing Time

  • Applications can be submitted up to 6 months before travel.
  • Standard processing time is 15 calendar days.
  • Some applications may take longer due to high volume, additional verification, or nationality-based checks.

Your passport will remain with the visa centre during processing.

Documents Required

Visa Application Form

  • Completed and signed long-stay Caribbean visa application form.
  • The application must be completed online, printed, and submitted in person.

Travel Documents

  • valid passport, meeting the following criteria:
    • Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure.
    • Must have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Copy of all passport pages, including previous visas.

Photograph Requirements

Must meet Dutch passport photo requirements:

  • Taken within the last 6 months.
  • 35mm x 45mm, with correct face proportions.
  • Neutral expression, eyes looking straight, mouth closed.
  • No head coverings unless for religious reasons.

UK Residency

One of the following documents must be provided:

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) valid for at least one month beyond your Schengen departure (valid until March 31, 2025).
  • An EU Settlement Scheme Biometric Residence Card (EUSS BRC) valid for at least one month beyond Schengen departure (valid until March 31, 2025).

Letter from Immigration Service

  • Approval letter confirming your residence permit application has been accepted.
  • The required document depends on the location:
    • Aruba: Temporary Admission Document (VTA).
    • St Maarten: Landing Permit.
    • Curaçao: No additional letter is required.
    • Bonaire, St Eustatius, SabaAuthorisation for Temporary Stay (MVV-BES).
  • Any additional documents listed in the approval letter must also be provided.

Documents for Minors (Under 18 Years Old)

  • Birth certificate (original + copy).
  • Copies of both parents’ identity documents.
  • If one parent has sole custody, a court judgment confirming parental authority must be provided.

Important Notes:

  • You can only apply for this visa after receiving residence permit approval.
  • Each country has different entry requirements – check carefully before applying.
  • Your passport will be retained during processing.
  • Visa fees are non-refundable even if the application is rejected.

Photo Specifications

To ensure your application is processed without delays, your passport photo must meet the following criteria:

Dimensions:

  • Size: 35 mm x 45 mm (width x height).
  • Face Width: Between 16 mm and 20 mm (excluding ears).
  • Face Length: For applicants aged 11 and over, between 26 mm and 30 mm (from chin to crown).

Quality:

  • Colour: The photo must be in colour and a true likeness.
  • Recency: Taken within the last 6 months.
  • Clarity: Sharp, with sufficient contrast and detail.
  • Condition: Undamaged and unaltered by computer software.
  • Paper: Printed on high-quality, smooth photo paper with a minimum resolution of 400 dpi.

Lighting:

  • Evenness: Lighting must be even, without over- or underexposure.
  • Shadows: No shadows on the face or background.
  • Reflections: No reflections on the face or from accessories.

Position:

  • Head Orientation: Head facing forward, not tilted.
  • Eye Alignment: Eyes horizontally aligned.
  • Shoulders: Shoulders straight.

Background:

  • Colour: Light grey, light blue, or white.
  • Uniformity: Plain, all one colour and shade.
  • Contrast: Must contrast sufficiently with the head.

Glasses:

  • Visibility: Eyes fully visible through fully transparent lenses.
  • No Distortion: No distortion or shadows caused by glasses.

Facial Appearance:

  • Head Coverings: Head uncovered unless worn for religious reasons.
  • Visibility: Face fully visible; eyes not obscured by hair or accessories.

Expression:

  • Neutrality: Neutral expression with mouth closed.
  • Gaze: Looking straight at the camera.

Exceptions:

  • Religious Head Coverings: Permitted if the head covering is plain, in one color, and contrasts with the background.
  • Children Under 6: Some requirements are relaxed, such as strict positioning and expression rules.
